Friends with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
February 29 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 amFree
Trying decide how to spend the extra day we have this leap year? How about having your family join Kid Kindness and Friends of Dana-Farber in coloring cheerful cards for patients of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute!
Our cards will be used in the gift bags that Friends delivers monthly to Dana-Farber patients receiving infusions. Friends volunteers fill two carts with 250 brightly colored goodie bags and although the contents of the gift bags vary somewhat from month to month, a typical selection might include a puzzle book, a tin of hard candy, hand cream, chapstick, and a seasonal favor.
We are suggesting that everyone bring a chapstick to donate (unscented and colorless). This is a great opportunity to get the kids involved prior to the event with a tangible item they are familiar with to bring and give.
There will be a short presentation at 10:15 by Friends of Dana-Farber where they will tell us about their program and how the kids’ cards will help their mission followed by plenty of time to color the cards!
Please register below to reserve your spot.
Looking for other ways to help Friends of Dana-Farber?
Bring art supplies to use that day, and then donate those supplies to the Art Room! They don’t have many supplies and it would be very helpful to receive donations of items like crayons, markers, colored pencils, stickers, stamps, etc. Our only request is that there is no glitter (as all parents know – glitter gets EVERYWHERE and can be impossible to clean).
Founded in 1976, the Friends of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute have raised more than $34 million to fund powerful cancer research and patient care programs at Dana-Farber. We believe that philanthropy in the present makes future breakthroughs, cutting-edge treatment, and improved quality of care possible. We exemplify the Power of Friends through our dual mission: raising funds to support research, patient services, women’s cancer programs, and oncology fellowships and providing services that enhance Dana-Farber’s healing environment, including gift bags for patients undergoing treatment, administration of our world-class art collection, non-denominational spiritual health programs, and programs to brighten the holidays for patients and families.
Directions for participants:
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s main building, the Yawkey Center for Cancer Care, is at 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215 (on the corner of Brookline Avenue and Jimmy Fund Way). Participants can park in the Yawkey Garage, the entrance to which is on Jimmy Fund Way. From the garage, take the elevators directly to the third floor. Turn right from the elevators and right again down the hallway, and room 306 will be just ahead on your right.
